Which Polling rate?

Is 1000hz polling rate the best to use for gaming? been reading about it a lot online and a lot of people prefer 500hz for gaming.

depends on the mouse i think, a fair few mice will only register up untill mid 400's so there is no gain to be had going over 500 thats my reason for using 500 my mx510 dont see any higher, off topic nice to bump int you again etines stalking me ? lol
