Which power cables do I use?

I’m sure this is a really easy question, but I’m struggling to find a clear answer between Google and the lack of documentation that came with the card…

I have a Sapphire Pulse 9070XT with two 8 pin connectors. I have a Superflower Leadex III modular PSU which has various VGA cables:

- Two 8 pins to a 12 pin connector marked 600W. I think this is a 12Vhpwr connector and not what I need, right?

- One 8 pin to a single 6+2 pin connector. Obviously this can’t do both 8 connectors at the card end, so I assume this is no good, at least not on its own.

- One 8 pin to two 6+2 pin connectors. This would connect at both ends, but it doesn’t seem right that I could run the card off just one PSU connection.

What do I do? Do I use the latter two cables in conjunction?

Which exact Leadex III did you get, as struggling to see one that comes with a single 6+2 as well as two 6+2.

But yes ideally you use two separate cables from the PSU, likely they should both be the two 6+2 cables, but just use one connector from each.


Leadex seem to call them "SLI Cables" - so you'd use 2 of these, but 1 connector from each

So it sounds like the best bet is two cables, and just hide the spare 6+2 end somewhere, yeah?

Yep, my Seasonic has 2 on each cable, so I just cable tie the unused part to the main part of the cable so it's tidier/out of sight :)

Very strange that they ship that one with a single cable and a 2x cable - you'd think it would make sense logistically to only use the 2x cables everywhere :D

But yep - just hide the spare connector (often the neatest way is to use the 1st connector, and then fold the cable for the endmost connector back on itself towards the PSU)

Yea I have 2 of these cables with my EVGA PSU hooked up to my 9070, I use both and do what @Armageus said.. tie back the second connector to the cable.

I Also bought some extension cables from OcUK this week to make it a little nicer to look at :)

That is exactly what you should do. Put two independent 6+2 cables in and connect them to the PSU. On that second connector just leave one end dangling/ziptie it out of the way. If you had a third 8-pin on your GPU, that's where you would have used it. This is known as "daisy-chaining". You want at least two independent cables for that card, as each of those cables is rated for 150W. Having two independent ones gets you 300W of total power delivery, plus you get another 75W from your PCIe slot. This way, you're giving the card 375W to play with, while it should be consuming just around 300W. By doing this you're avoiding any issues relating to power delivery, which could happen if you just daisy-chained through a single cable.
