Which power connector?

This may be a really dumb question but anyway, i have a Asus P5Q PRO it has a 24pin power connection and a 8 pin connection do i use both or just the 8 pin? Thanks

You need to plug both in or your system won't boot.

the 24pin p1 connector powers the motherboard, ram andexpansions slots etc.

the 8pin power socket powers the cpu.

Well today i popped in the CPU and everything is working great, but the system won't turn off by using the windows shut down option i have to hold down the power button any ideas?
