Which printer?

My Hp printer recently decided to stop working so i replaced it with a Kodak 5100 (I bought this printer under recommendation from the salesman). The printer is crap, it goes through ink like mad. The most annoying bit is that when the printer decides the cartridge is empty it just won't print anymore. At least with my old HP it would keep printing until the ink actually ran out.

So what i need is a reasonably priced printer, preferably not much more than £100. I'll be using it to mostly print out forms which will be mainly black but have some red on them so i need a printer with 4 seperate inks. It also need to have a scanner function. Any help would be appreciated, oh yeah i need to buy one tomorrow morning so need advice asap.

I've got a canon MP600 all in one - fully recomend it and great printer + copys & scans
pretty good on ink too, all the inks a seperate so you ony replace the one thats run out, not like my old epson where all the colours were together so you loose out.

Canon Pixma iP4500 is a very good all rounder. It will print Photo Lab Quality. Also at a very good price £70 (ish). Some people say the cartridges are a little expensive, however, the tanks are bigger than epson's and there is an extra larger black tank for normal document printing.

I have the Canon Pixma IP4500, overall an excellent printer, which you can also get compatables for....:)

Two choices in my opinion Cannon or Epson although I can't give you specific models as I havn't bought a printer in a while.

I used to have a Cannon Pixma and the print results were absolutely outstanding for photos. Unfortunately Cannon now chip all of their cartridges so ink can be expensive as you can't really get 3rd part ink.

Epson printers produce really good prints too (maybe not quite up to the level of cannon) but you can generally pick up quite cheap 3rd party ink for them.

*EDIT* According to the above post you can get compatibles fot Cannon's these days! If so then go for it.

The cannon printers seem to be getting the most recommendations so i'll probably go for one of those. One question though, as the cartridges are chipped will the printer let me use it till the ink has completely run out or will it just refuse to print when it thinks the cartridge is empty?

If I remeber the software nags a lot for you to replace the cartridges when they are 'almost empty'... However I think you can still print untill it runs dry. Although this may invalidate your warranty.

It looks like i'll go for the canon MP600, it does all i want it to do and its been recommended to me a few times. A bit over budget but if the quality is good then its worth it. Thanks for all the advice
