A Laserjet will be much cheaper to run if you are printing high volumes. If it's just the occasional photo you will be printing then go for an inkjet. It's worth pricing the cost of replacement cartridges in either case before buying. I recommend Epson if you decide on an Inkjet printer.
Can't beat a Canon printer, l've got the iP 4300 using compatable inkcartridge's. To top it off you can get compatibles inkcartridge's for the ip4700 > quids in just google it + print quality is still good for the average user.
I have also priced the "cis" for both, the canon has a higher dpi but only uses 5 inks (two black, 3 colour) where the epson has 6 inks (one black. 5 clolour)
I love my Canon Pixma and would not give my wireless network functionality up for anything. Print from an pc/laptop in the house without the need for any other machine to be switched on. Worthwhile considering if you are printing from multiple machines.
Id go for a cannon, ive had a canon ip4000 for 5 years now and it has never given me any grief running it off non-genuine ink off the bay, you wouldnt know the difference, costs £10 for 10 ink cartridges (5 are used at a time) even the genuine inks arent all that expensive and they last a long time.
