Which Processor?

Hey all,

I'm still planning my upgrade, I have decided on both my RAM and Graphics Card, however I'm still unsure for the processor or motherboard (See motherboard forum )

SO... here are my chosen upgrades already:
HIS ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 1024MB

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz x2 (=4GB)

I will be overclocking both the CPU and GFX Card.

I currently have an E6600 as you can see from my sig - I use my PC mainly for gaming and internet, but occasionally stop playing and actually do some work

E8400 seems like a good choice, as many people argue duals > quads pound for pound in gaming, and unless you 3D render a lot or transcode videos/audio a lot a dual is probably worth getting over a quad. E8400's are doing well and seemingly the one to go for!

Yeah I took a look at them and this was my original choice - just thought I'd grab the thoughts of you guys

I do no 3D work, and only occasionally do video work, so I think like you said, the E8400 is the best choice for me

Exactly what I was going to say.

Although, imo, at this time, there's not a lot of point in upgrading an E6600

I'd stick with the CPU you've got, I'd only buy the 8400 If I was building a PC from scratch.
