AMD FX-8350 Vishera 8 Core 4.0GHz or Intel i5 3570k 3.40GHz ?

Which one will produce a better performance? such as in gaming, photo editing and watching movies etc.

Which programs do you do photo editing with? Do they support multi-threaded CPU's.

For gaming the i5 is the better processor.

not a huge difference no...

im not sure about the am3+ socket, but the 1155 will run out in July when its replaced by the 1150..

I think piledriver is the last set on the am3+

Either of them have limited options.

I think the 3570k over clocks better, in terms of performance.

To be honest I probably be using my computer more in photo editing and watching movies. Probably get into a lot of gaming in the summer when i have finished university.

Games only use 4 cores don't they?

Well, the FX CPU's use rather "mini cores", core for core they're rather weak.
Some applications can use 8 cores, but depending on that application you're only around the same performance as 4 of Intels cores with HT or a little bit faster.

No real point in having 8 cores for gaming, I'd rather have taken 6 faster cores any day.

Encoding etc, the cores can be used.

As above. Thinks like design software, some CAD's and encoding are heavy threaded. It all depends on the specific coding of the software though. For your use I'd reccomend the i5. I do some photo editing on my i5 and its not slow :p

Personally think AMD's went down the route to gain some marketshare.
4GHZ Octo core, or 3.4GHZ Quad core? You know 99% of people are picking the 4GHZ Octo core.

Most Adobe CS series software doesn't beneifit from more than 4 cores, 1-2 cores is the norm, only the video editing side, Premier and After Effects really makes good use of them. So the i5 is easy choice.

Unless I'm blind, you couldn't go wrong with either a 3570k or FX8350 after looking at that.
2 area's the 3570k bests the FX83 and two areas the FX83 bests the i5.
