Hi

I'm getting together the parts for my rig & need some advice. I need a PSU that will be running 24/7 as I do folding for seti & medical research with my CPU running between 25 - 50 % load most of the time. I am looking in the £50-£80 price range. I also play flight sims & FPS's

My parts so far are :-
MSI P67A-GD53
Gigabyte 560 Ti OC
Intel i5 2500k (1155)
1 X 1 TB SATA III
2 X 1.5TB SATA II

Any advice would be of help?

I'm using a Corsair TX750 and it's been running nearly 24/7 for the past year without problem....

My old thermaltake PSU did nearly 3 years straight at one point it's now about 7 years old and still going strong :D

With that rig, a high efficiency 650W PSU. The antec high current gamer 620w is cheap, runs cool, and is efficient (tested at over 87% @ 50% load, which would be the higher range of your typical load, I find that hard to believe though).

The most efficient designs are provided by Seasonic, and a lot of high end (and even the Antec High Current Gamer for that matter) are manufactured by Seasonic. But can't hurt to go straight at the source (Seasonic X650 gold-rated, fully modular). You'd be paying twice the Antec though, so not necessarily cost effective :)

Corsairs (V2) and XFX are also Seasonic OEM, so well worth a look. But the Antec will do a fine job.

When I was buying my 6950, I read somewhere from OCUK that they recommended the Corsair TX series, I went with that and havent had any problems :)

Re Seasonic and the X-650. One thing I remember from Joni-Gurus review is they said the X-650 was built more like a server PSU. Got to be a consideration if your looking for 24/7 operation.
