at the moment i have an opty 165 on an asus sli premium, 7800gtx sli. im going to move to the dfi expert board (my board maxes out @ 266FSB). what would be the best psu? i have a tagen 580w at the moment, i notice the 12v on this drops now and again, plus i hear the dfi is better on a native 8 pin poer connector.

thanks in advance

Il give you abit of info as to what i know.

Apparently Seasonic work well on the DFI Boards as they have the 8pin.

I have had to RMA my board twice, once was fault 2nd my fault, but the technication Wendell Smith at DFI says he thinks the problem is the Seasonic PSU, and he uses a Hiper 580W Modular there to test them, which has the 4pin

I continue to use my Seasonic and it works fine, so i recommened this but just be aware if something goes faulty DFI may deam it to be fault on psu.

As long as the 12v doesn't go below 11 (official tolerance is less than that) it should run fine. Tagan are a good make as far as power goes, it should have no problems with that.

If its causing instability then i'd say its faulty.
I can't see the seasonic being any better on the power front, although it should be better on your ears.

How low is it dropping, and does it only drop when under gpu load?

na dont drop that much, i was more concerned about the 8 pin power, as i was told its better to have it native, i might just try this tagen, as it has the modular addon

Enermax liberty 620w are recommended by DFI street along with a few others there.

They advised me against the Liberties with DFI boards. I bought one and had no end of hassle with it, went on DFI Street and they said there were known problems with Liberties and DFI boards... also backed up by the OcUK RMA guy... I went for Seasonic instead:)

?
God I hope not, sorry but that's wrong. The maximum deviation from ATX nominal is -+5% that's 11.4v. And if your supply drops that low it's not much good anyway.

This is a good DFI PSU guide.

I've read about Seasonic problems with DFI. OCZ 520w are known to be solid with DFI. I'd recommend a PCP&P 510, nothing comes close for power regulation, but they are expensive. I've read good things about the 600W Silverstone Strider ST60F, don't know about with DFI, but the spec is very good. £90 42A@12v 4 rails and it's modular.
