Looking for advice on which PSU to look for for my new rig which will consist of ...

E6400 Conroe
Asus P5B Deluxe
GeForce 7900 GS
2 x 1GB RAM
2 x HDDs, 1 x DVD, 1 x multi-card reader
Grateful for advice on a decent PSU to go for. Not sure if I should look for a 600W or bigger PSU. Would also like one that is fairly silent and does not cost the earth (possibly around the £30 mark).

a) enermax 620w is a good psu

b) Seasonic S12 600W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply (CA-002-SS)

i dont think there is one for £30

I dont know if you are overclocking? either way I would say 500w is a minimum...

if not overclocking you may just wanna go for :

a) e6300
b) asrock mobo

saves u a few more quid...

also please note dont overlook the fact that if you buy a cheap psu and it dies it could take something with it i.e. mobo...in which case spending an extra 30 quid for a psu would be sooo justified...

600 watts is overkill, I took the test for you but i cant fill it in all perfectly because i dunno how much else stuff u have, but with all basic hardware ( 2 fans, your stuff u posted above, 1usb device, etc....)
you need

Recommended PSU Wattage: 294 watts

Fill it in urself if u dont believe me : http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

But a 350 watts psu from a good brand would be more than enough for the energy-efficient core 2 duo....

Highly recommend seasonic, ocz or zalman for a psu...

Yep i agree, the 400W Akasa i spec'ed above will be plenty.

A bit over his price limit tho, what about the :
FSP Sparkle ATX-400PNF 400W ATX2.0 PSU
Price: £27.99

?

Thanks for the link. Filled it in (including USB, fans etc) and it looks like I would need 356W. However, any overclocking of the CPU pushes the requirement up towards the 400W mark. Adding a dedicated sound card and a PCI card pushes it over 400W. Therefore, I presume I should be looking at one that delivers 400 - 500 W which gives me scope for future addition of a extra drives etc.

Then you need more as 30 quid sry,
These look ok:

OCZ ModStream 450w ATX2.0 Power Supply 44 quid
Akasa Ultra Quiet 460W Paxpower Active PFC ATX2.0 PSU 47 quid
Seasonic S12 430W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply 43 quid
Zalman ZM460-APS 460W ATX2.03 PSU 54 quid
