Hi Folks

Have just been looking at power supplies as mine is starting to go and am a bit bewildered by the choice.

Can anyone make me a recommendation?

I'd like something quiet and I'm running a Q6660 SLACR Quad Core, 4gb Ram, 4 Sata Hdds, 1 DVDRW, 2 12cm Fans and currently an ATI Sapphire x1600 Pro. I'm looking to upgrade the X1600 to a 260 or possibly SLI 250's in the near future.

Cheers! :D

The world is pretty much your oyster. You have a huuuuuuuuuuuuge choice of really good PSUs out there.

I have this one
BeQuiet! 650w
I like it because it delivers really stable power, has a decent wattage and ampage on the 12v rails, is extremely quiet and has a good set of cables. Also every cable apart from the 24pin ATX is detachable which isn't something that many PSUs offer. Something that you do have to think about though is that it only has 2 x PCIE (either 8 or 6pin) power connections, and it also costs a good chunk. But in my opinion well worth it.

A couple other good ones are:
Pretty much anything from this page
Corsair PSUs
Though I'm a little wary about them since my 620W Corsair PSU just randomly died (currently being RMA'd) and I know of several other people whose Corsair PSUs have died too.

This one is another excellent choice:
PC Power & Cooling 750w

And I think these ones too
Zalman PSUs

From what you say you have I wouldn't think you'd need more than 600-700w with pretty heavy overclocking. Just gotta make sure you have enough cables for your gfx setup.

Depends how much you're willing to spend. After a quick look at reviews both of these PSU's seem good on every front. The 610W will power everything just fine, and should do you for the net upgrade, but the 750W could perhaps be carried on for your net 2 upgrades, I dunno. Be Quiet's are great, but come at a cost premium - although they are modular, meaning any unused cables can be removed. Corsair are good too, but I haven't read many reviews on them so I can't comment on silence.

Something around the 700w should be plenty. Get a modular one preferably as you can plug in only the leads you need to make cable management easier.

I have the Be Quiet 850w modular and it is excellent and true to it's name. Corsair, Enermax
have a good rep even though i had a Corsair die on me with a bang after 2 days.

OCZ seem to get a lower opinion on these forums, i've not had one personally however.

Hope this helps

That was my exact Corsair that failed, hmm

Cheers guys!

I'm liking the idea of modular PSU's as it saves quite a bit of room and adds to airflow. The Be Quiet! looks like it fits the bill, now I just have to find the moolah!
