Which 100w PSU is best outta these three in terms of quietness...

Zalman ZM1000-HP

Coolermaster Real Power 1000w Modular Power Supply

Corsair HX 1000W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-1000HXUK)

Cheers

Avoid corsair power supplies like the plague they have a terrible rma service you have to fork out £30 + for shipping because the UK rma address is in Holland, if it ever goes wrong which it's bound to within 5 years do some research and get a brand that has a uk shipping address for rmas.

I have the 750w version of the Zalman and it is totally silent. As others have said, are you sure you need a 1000w psu? You may be surprised at how little power your rig actually uses.

Yeah, I'll need to double check what I need but it'll be for a Q9450, 2 sticks of DD2 Dominator PC8500, Asus Rampage mobo, LG H20 HD-DVD and blu ray drive, Sony eye toy, ATI 4870 or a G280... Probably is overkill is 1000w but the Zalman ZM1000-HP does sound good (or the models below it)...

You definitely won't need 1000w for that. I've got a similar (but slightly higher) spec running on a 520w power supply and when measuring at the wall under max load (fur benchmark + Orthos running) it only pulls 375w

im running a hd 2900GT with E2140 OCed to 3.2GHz (100% OC) on my 430W tagan U15.

but i bought a Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 650W for crossfire 4850s. (even then i tthink thats OVERKILL)

This is a sudden change...

I just think it's a very valid consideration they are great power supplies but why not get a power supply with a 5 year warranty that will cost you £6-99 to replace if it goes wrong rather than the american or european shipping fees.
I just presumed naively that corsair power supplies would have a place in the UK you could ship to like antec or others, I was wrong.
I have found a place that can do it for £17.60 but it will be 5 working days to get there and only £50 insurance but that sort of price probably wont last long because the next cheapest is £25 then £28 and that's just for 3.6 kg standard 5 working day delivery and basic cover.

as stated above get the zalman.

i have the 850W version and it makes no noise at all, the heatpipes really all the work the fans are basically inaudible, even when putting my ear next to them i could bearly hear it.

best PSU i have ever bought.

If he wants silent then going overkill on the wattage is a good idea because the fans start ramping up above their minumum revs quite early in the power curve.
