Gigabyte Gaming G1 R9 390,XFX DD R9 390 or the Powercolor PCS+ R9 390??

They are the only ones which are available for £250 as my mate was too busy to get any of the deals on Friday and needs a new card.

They're essentially all the same card, but I would choose XFX as a personal preference of brand and I think it has a slightly higher clock speed than the rest.

Gigabyte all day every day. Unless hell freezes over and EVGA start making AMD GPUs then I would always go with Gigabyte for their warranty. UK based too, so very quick turnaround with reasonable postage prices.

ditto - I've always had good results with Gigabyte cards

If memory serves the gigabyte 390's are voltage locked and also a couple inches shorter than other 390's. extra display ports as well i think. bit of an odd card

You are correct the gigabytes are to be avoided really, shame as they are smaller and still have a good cooler.

Out of the 3 it would be the Powercolor but be prepared it is huge in all dimensions. The xfx like usual has poor attention to detail on cooling and vrms.

Mate has a 600T which has a lot of cooling already and a 550W Antec TruePower modular PSU(Seasonic OEM). He does not overclock graphics cards so it doesn't matter if a card is voltage locked.

I just want to advise him on one which is well built, and the cooler is sufficient for stable gaming without any throttling and OFC is not like a jet engine under load, especially since he will playing ARK too, which is very testing on cards.

Not sure what card to tell him to buy now since there are recommendations for all three.

The XFX gets reasonable reviews:

The Powercolor seems to get reasonable reviews:

The Gigabyte appears to have no reviews but does seem to be more compact and has UK based RMA.

Mate does have two DVI screens though.

The 290 XFX DD was one the worse 290 out there, and XFX arent know for greatness imo.

Easy choice :)

Sapphire / Gigabyte (Gigabyte if you value easier RMA's) > PowerC > Rest.

I have the Sapphire Nitro, and it clocked to 1100MHz core and 6500MHz memory with stock volts!

Very surprised, and very happy, since the R9 390(X) cards aren't known for good overclocking potential!

WTF??

I was getting the xfx before black friday came with a £206 sapphire nitro :o

Though the powercolor is very much as good, all the reviews for both cards ate good.

It looks like the Powercolor is a safe choice - it seems to have a fan directly over the VRMs,and the heatsink is massive too.

If my mate had bought on Sunday he would have got a Nitro for £250,but all now nearer to £300!!

at £250 the battle is closer than ever. For those that want to go down the red route, PowerColor's PCS+ is a satisfying option.

The triple fan cooler is one of the best we have tested, specifically in regards to thermal cooling efficiency. We analysed many game titles for multiple hours at a time, and the core temperature held at a steady 58c without any throttling. This is class leading....

If you have a budget limited to £250, the PowerColor R9 390 PCS+ deserves serious attention. The 3 fan cooler is a monster.

I told him to get the Powercolor now and thanks for those videos Boom and thanks everyone for their answers too!

Still,I don't know how this thread got 100000+ views though!!

He got the card - its a monster and the cooler seems to be made mostly of metal.

It didn't seem to be audible over the fans of his 600T case, and seems to able to run ARK reasonably well on high settings at 1920X1080 - around 50FPS on High.

You used be able to get the MSI for around £269 at least, until they started getting popular then the prices started jumping up by £20
