Which RAM can I plug in?

I've been away from hardware matters for some time, so apologies if this is an obvious question. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R PCI-E DDR2 motherboard with 4x1Gb memory sticks in it.

Since I have two people logging on to it, it can often struggle for spare memory and pages constantly to disk. I'm looking for the cheapest way to get it to 8Gb RAM. Can I shove in DDR3, which seems to be much cheaper than DDR2 or are they different pin arrangements or just plain incompatible?

Running Vista 64 if it's important.

Thanks for the response; I had feared as much. A new mobo won't be on the cards for some time and DDR2 will cost me about £40+P&P to upgrade to a mere 6Gb :(

Doubt it^^

I would look into getting an SSD? You can always image your current install over to it.

Also Windows 7 would be quite an upgrade..
