Which RAM for an old Acer desktop? How to find out?

A friend has an old Acer Aspire SA90-DB7J with 1GB of RAM (disk is constantly accessing!!)

With such old systems i'm a bit hesitant to just go out and buy 4GB. Is there an easy way to find out the maximum it can take, which memory I should buy, etc?
 
The Internet says 2x2GB of DDR2 is the maximum.

The major memory manufacturer's websites will tell you what they'll guarantee to work on a particular motherboard/system.
