I always get confused with this - How do you work out which RAM will work with a mobo you have chosen? I normally have to come on here & ask but I'm sure there must be an easy way to tell.

I'm looking for 2-4GB of RAM to go with this mobo;

I'm not worried about it being the fastest RAM available or overclocking. I just want affordable RAM that will work with this board.

Thanks a million, clever people of the OcUK forum ;)

So what am I looking for in temrs of speed? The mobo shows;

"Memory: 2x DDR3 DIMM 1666+(OC) / 1333 / 1066 MHz (Max. 16GB) / Dual Channel".

So can I get any DDR3 that runs at 1333/1066MHz?

you can use any 1333mhz ram, which will be the stock speed of memory bus speed of the cpu, a 1600mhz ram will work at the lower speed, untill you decide you may want to overclock? it just allows the headroom needed.

if you just want to run it all "as it comes out of the box" then this will be ok- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-019-PA&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1516

the reaper I linked too, does have a lot lower memory timings, which the motherboard will instantly use, with you not having to do a thing to make use of theses low timings, the bios will detect and set itself up accordingly.

Download the motherboard manual and have a read - like I didn't do :) With my Gigabyte H55M-UD2H board I can't adjust any memory settings unless it's ram with XMP support. Most restrictive motherboard I've ever owned.

You might have the overhead to overclock, but with my mobo you can't do it without XMP support.

I've no idea if any of that applies to the Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H.

Cheers.
