Which RAM should I get?

Hi all,

I was speced an upgrade yesterday with the GeIL EVO Leggera RAM when it was on Deal of the week. Well it's now off DotW I was thinking about getting a different set of RAM and I wanted your opinions.

This is what I was recommended:
GeIL EVO Leggera 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GEL38GB1600C9DC) - £49.99

This is what I was thinking of getting instead:
Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (PVI38G160C9K) - £35.99

It's the same base price, but the Patriot is on Deal of the Week and seems slightly better, albeit taller, on paper.

Some more information: The motherboard is going to be a Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 and the CPU is going to be a Intel Core i5-3570 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) with the stock fan. (I'm not doing any overclocking on this system.)

So will these work together, or should I just stick the the GeIL?

Thanks,
- Munty.

out of those 2 patriot has better timings.

None of those. Forget timings, go for faster default frequencies:

Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit

Superb price for £53

or better the 16gb pack is under special of £71.99

Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C10 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit

£72 quid for 16Gb of fast ram - Bargain!!!!

Remeber to activate the XMP though :)

for the 1 or 2 marks better you will get in benchmarks for £20 more there isn't much point.

?? i take it you mean between the 8GB and the 16GB i quoted because the 8GB of 1600MHz RAM you posted and the 8GB of 1866MHz I posted are both £53.. I'd go for the higher frequency.

As for the 16gb.. you probably right.. but then when has this hobby made any sense or logic :p It's sooo cheap it seems rude not to. Besides, you can then safely turn off paging and if you've not got an SSD, that can speed things up a bit.

The atriot stuff is very stable at XMP and as your not clocking and its teh cheaper option I would hit this one up!!

Thanks for the replies all.

I'm going to go with the Patriot memory then. It's priced nicely and I can always upgrade it in a year or 2 if I want to.
