Hi, I’m trying to decide whether to go with PC6400 or PC8500 for a new system running a quad core E6600. I probably won’t be overclocking, or will overclock very little. Im under the impression from reading around that the faster 1066Mhz RAM will not run at that speed unless you considerably overclock the CPU, therefore I should save the money and go with the 800Mhz stuff. Is this correct?

Also which brand would you recommend? I’ve had good experience with Corsair in the past but as im not intending to do much overclocking I’m now wondering if I should go for a cheaper brand?

Most boards now let you set 1066mhz without needing to touch the CPU FSB.

But if you're not overclocking then PC8500 would be overkill. Any of the PC6400 kits will do you fine, tho the Corsair is pretty expensive compared to the Geil and OCZ.

I would just go for the Geil that's on offer this week for £47.

Agree with above really.

GeiL has been awsome ram for me in the past.

I've just orderd the GeiL 2gb 800mhz on this weeks offer, it will be fine for you and its a bargain at 50 squid :)
