I've got a slightly older system. Actually I've just looked at my order history and I bought it over 5 years ago, so pretty happy with how it's holding up to be honest!
Anyway, It's a Core2Duo E6400 on an Abit AW9D-MAX (Intel 975X) with 2 x Geil 1GB PC2-6400 C4 ultra-low latency (dual channel mode).
It's now starting to go crazy on processor usage when I have too many browser windows open running KDE desktop on Arch linux and memory usage is 1.8 or 1.9GB, and in Windows7 (used for gaming) it's just damn slow to move between tasks such as alt-tabbing from a game to a browser.
So it seems to me that more memory will sort it out, but I want to know, can i stick 2 x 2GB into the other pair of dual-channel slots and have all the memory work together happily?
For example
Crucial Ballistix
Corsair XMS2
Or perhaps just 2x1GB of value ram to pep things up a bit until i buy a new system (it seems a bit pointless having 6GB in such an old system that in fairness I will replace within a year)
Corsair Value 2x1GB
Will all these options work ok? And does it seem a waste to you guys to put another 4GB in there?
