Which route would you take?

Hiya everyone. I'm looking to replace an ageing system. Its an Shuttle sn45g with a 2500+, 2 gig of pc3200, and an AGP x800xtpe.

I can see 2 possible routes, keeping in mind I WILL be using another Shuttle, and both shuttles cost about the same

Route one is upgrading to a sn21g5. This is a socket 939 Shuttle with PCI-e and uses ddr1. I will equip this with an x2, speed undecided atm but likely a 3800 or 4200. This way I can reuse my 2 gig of ram, saving potentially 180 quid. I will also have to buy a new gfx card, likely a 7950GT as this is single slot. Downside though is I'll be stuck to socket 939. How long would a 3800-4400 last me?

The second option is the new Shuttle SD32G2. This supports Conroe, ddr2, and has PCIe. I'll be putting a 6300 in it, but not sure if I'll be clocking it. Same gfx card, plus I'll have to buy some ddr2 ram, 2gb of it. Obviously this will be more expensive, but I have the thought of being future secure.

I don't do any encoding or rendering, this will be purely games and everyday tasks. I will be running it at 1680 x 1050 res, and like details and effects turned up. I will also be intermittedly upgrading the gfx card.

I guess my main question is, is Conroe gaming performance really worth the extra 180 quid I'll need to spend on ram?

Thanks a lot for your input :)

So that's 1 for Conroe. Well actually, I realise that Conroe is the only way to go atm, but if I can save 200 quid for a small fps loss I'd rather do that. Any other opinions?

Well then i would stick in a 3800+ X2 keeping everything else get the GPU you want it should still be good in 6 months, plus you can move your GPU over to core2duo when the times right.
I have this same problem do i upgrade from a 4000+ the answer i got on here is no not yet anyway so i`m leaving mine untill next march.

The SN21G5 only has a 250W PSU so you may find yourself unable to use top range GFX cards. The SN25P would be more suited to the system you're thinking of (I've got one and I really like it :) ).

Go 939, save the cash, get the new gfx and then don't upgrade for a year? a 7950 will be fine for ages, surely!

Also no option of asus terminator? ;)
