which route

bit of advice needed please looking down the upgrade route ,trying to decide the best option choices are semi upgrade ie
dual core 2 6300
ASRock 775Dual-VSTA
upgrade of only £160
with possibly adding a 7900gto 512 pcie to it or going the whole hog

my current pc is
amd 1.8 cpu 939
msi 939 mobo
2gig geil ddr ram
xfx 6800gt
74 raptor

would i notice a difference with just a cpu and mobo change .and how much more would a graphics change with the above card ,99% gaming

Since I know next to nothing about that motherboard I'll assume you've already checked that it supports DDR Ram and AGP graphics rather than DDR2. If so then yes it is worth the upgrade the Conroe would eat your A64 for breakfast.

As to the difference you'd notice, what sort of resolutions you play at is likely to be the biggest factor.

i have a philips 200w6 widescreen with res 1650 x 1050 think its the most the screen will do

like i said its 99% for gaming and i wonder if the graphics card would top it off too

You could save your money and keep the mobo and the RAM. Just buy a CPU and a graphics card, if it is socket 939 then it should cope with an X2 or Opteron.

I have an Opteron 170 running at 2.6GHz on each core. Same speed as an FX60. DDR2 aint much better anyway.

All this assumes you have a PCI Express slot, if not Core2 is the way to go.

yeah ive not got the pcie yet so it looks as though its conroe time

definately would see a diff especially if you overclock the conroe...

dont forget the ddr2 as already mentioned..

gaming wise you would definately see a diff also....cuz u would see more, much clearly
