Sifting through some review on some sites, mostly finding mixed more than fully positive (like most things) i ended up buying a netgear WGR614UK G

i havent opened it yet as im still wondering whether i should actually use it, or return it and get some other N type router.. but the netgear doesn't seem to have as many mixed reviews as some others. All of them have some people saying that the range sucks or that connection drops among other things, so makes it hard to choose which one.

I'll be using it for wii/psp possibly another pc in future.. btw this is for cabled connection

any opinions?

Well the band waggon on here would probably tell you if you just want a basic G router for cable buy a Linksys WRT54GL and flash it with tomato firmware or something like DD-WRT is also a good alternative.

For £45 I would probably agree with the idea too, you get a lot of extra features with the 3rd party f/w, the router is stable and reliable and you have the option of using external antennas for the wifi if you want (this can sometimes help with signal issues).

Wii/PSP don't support anything better than 802.11G, so if you don't need it why spend more money on it?

if that's the case then should i just keep this netgear?

i didn't even think about what the wii/psp supported, just the router.. I'm just wondering if the range is good enough on this one as everything else on it seems fine from what i have read.

That is like asking how long a piece of string is mate. You're always going to get 'mixed' reviews of bits of kit and there will always be people saying it want any good or it was brilliant. There are very few examples otherwise.

Should you keep it?

Why not would be my response, unless you can think of a reason that it won't do what you need it to it will probably suit your needs just as well as any other bit of kit that costs the same (the Linksys with 3rd party firmware has a lot more features, but if you don't need them what is the point of switching?).

Looking at that linksys it does infact seem like one of the best routers, maybe i will make the switch afterall.

Thinking again, maybe i dont need those extra features.. maybe i should just do a coin toss to keep or get the linksys lol

as long as it has all the usual router options and a good range around the house then i dont care :)

WRT54GL + Tomato firmware = rock solid

mine's not skipped a beat in the 18 months it's been used

I have both the Netgear and the Linksys mentioned. I can honestly say you should switch to the linksys. The Netgear is nowhere near as stable as the Linksys. The WRT54GL is one of the best routers I've ever owned. It just doesn't fall over...
