Hi there,

I have just had my 100mb Virgin Media broadband installed andnow have a 10,100,1000 router. This is connected to a lynksys 10,100 wireless router which is situated upstairs to give me better wireless coverage around my house. I now want to change the router upstairs to take advantage of the higher network speeds to which I have computers hard wired but I also want wireless connectivity. So I would like to know should I get a new wireless router which is 10,100,1000 and just configure it as a switch like I have done with my lynksys or would it be better and cheaper to get a 10,100,1000 switch and a wireless access point?

Not sure which is the best and cheapest way to go so that I can take advantage of the faster networking speeds around the house. I will also as some stage be adding a NAS devise to the router upstairs at some time in the near future.

Thanks :)

Dont forget its only 1000mbps between PC and wireless device, if you get a wireless N access point you only ever get speeds of 300mbps and only then on a good signal. You probably wont notice much difference going with a wireless device with gigabit ethernet ports because the bottleneck will be over the wireless signal.

1000 > 300 > 1000

Only way to take advantage of the 1000mbps is to go all wired.

Yes I did realize this but primarily it will be used for streaming content over a wired network but I also want the wireless capability to

Thanks
