Just been asked a question regarding wireless router's. Someone in my office has a standard BT wireless router at home, that is working in a cottage and sending a signal to a laptop in a barn outside, both with stone walls.

Apparently it works but slow and wants something better. Been looking at a Belkin device which claims 200m+ and then a newer 'n' model which suggests 300m+.

With these 'N' ones, I'm guessing he can only expect that if the laptop was 'N' compatible as well?

Belkin stuff gets a bad name for reliability. I just purchased a DLink Wireless N router and USB adapter from another retailer. Very easy to set up and excellent signal strength along with lightning speeds. Wireless N is backwards compatible with g and a but the network will only run at the speed of the slowest component.
