Apologies if this question is done to death but I'm rubbish with networking so some reassurance/an informed opinion would be appreciated
My current setup is:
Virgin cable modem --> Linksys WRT54GS --> patch panel to various points in the house --> PCs
I'm a bit confused by 'cable router' - does this infer that such a router would replace both the modem and the Linksys router? In either case, the Linksys crashes or stops broadcasting the wireless connection pretty frequently, and seems to give some PCs very slow network rates from my NAS/other networked PCs (haven't found any reason to this, seems arbitrary), so I assume a change is in order.
I have an IP webcam, so I need to be able to forward ports - I'm assuming all routers support this, but thought I'd check just in case. More than 4 ports would be a bonus, as would wireless-n. I see Billions get mentioned a fair bit on here, although they seem expensive. I've not got a budget really, as long as the money is justifiable.
