Ok so I used to play Wow, EQ, EQ2, Dark Age of Camelot and a few others as well over the years and I'm looking for a new one to play. I'd prefer an online one or one that me and Cliffy can play over a lan. Any ideas? I've tried a couple of point and clicks and haven't really liked them much but I'm willing to give anything a go really.

I'll probably give warhammer a go when it comes out but that isn't for a while yet.

Definately a Western RPG given the list you have there.

I can't think of any modern ones bar Oblivion, but I don't think that has any MP.

Ever played the Baldur's Gate series? Very beardy but one of the best games ever- plus it works over LAN.

Or Guild Wars- which is a free to play MMO, though you may eventually get bored of it.

Lineage 2 :)

I'll look into that.

I haven't played baldur's gate, what's it like? I've already played giuld wars and wasn't overly impressed.

Lord of the Rings online might be just right for you.

I'll have a look at that too, see what it looks like.

BG2 is still the best 'proper' RPG available. And it can be played Co-op, me and a mate tried it once, but in a game that has over 100hours game time, progress can be slow when your not always available at the same time.

Baldur's Gate was a trilogy of games by Bioware (KOTOR, Jade Empire) that is set in the Forgotten Realms (D&D) universe. Like most people this was my first and only exposure to the world of D&D but basically imagine a party based game set in the classic medieval swords and magic setting using Dungeons and Dragons rules for the game mechanics. The games are huge: the best in the series, Baldur's Gate II, will take you well over 100 hours to complete if you want to do everything. The storylines and sidequests are fun... basically if you like your swords and spells type RPGs, you should play this.

The only downside is that they are old games and look it, though the whole trilogy can be had for a tenner as it's platinum/white label.

Fable.
Fallout 1.
Fallout 2.
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey

I know you said you preferred online ones but you gotta try the one's I just suggested, especially the second one-pure class.

yeah second vote for The Witcher

could try Neverwinter Nights 2. Was playing that before the Witcher. I prefer NWN2 engine over NWN engine(unmodified) Should be able to get multiplayer going on it. Not sure how stable it is or how good it is though.

Nearly everyone here is recommending non-online games :\

RF Online is free now and certainly worth a go if you enjoy a hard hard grind and the idea of 3 races competing in pvp simultaneously.

Baldur's gate or Diablo by far. Although you may want to consider upcoming single player Mass effect, same developper as Baldur and KOTOR. Too bad it's 360 only - oh well it looks amazing enough to get.

The lord of the rings is brilliant with two people. There's a whole line of storyline quests that are often perfect for a well matched duo. If you get into it, start on Evernight and give Hawke or Grimbane a tell.

But also get the Witcher. Two copies, or there'll be fights :D

Thanks will look that up too. I don't mind grinding, used to love grinding with my mage in wow. Spent hours and hours just grinding.

I've read a few things about the witcher, is it really that good then?

There's a couple of things that make the witcher stand out - really good, gritty graphics, mature, decently acted dialogue and believable characters, and some amazingly cinematic in-game moments.

Just feels very adult, and a real breath of fresh air some of the patronising, shiny-happy rpg's that we've been subjected to.

Star Wars : Knights of the old Republic 1 & 2, if you feel like single player, best single player rpg i have played on pc.
