just seen some what look good deals on ryzen 2700x

is that a significant upgrade on my i54670? I use a 1440p monitor with an rtx 2600 so feel my cpu may be an issue

It'll be an upgrade but more noticeably when multitasking e.g. rendering or streaming. If you're just using it for general use like desktop, playing media, gaming, then personally, I think I'd look for something else. It'll suit the RTX2060 quite nicely, though, so if you're looking for bang for buck, you could do worse than pick a 2700/X up.

Been looking at the 2700x and 3600 myself lately and the 3600 does seem to be the one to go for, especially if you have faster RAM. It is a little bit more money though.

The IPC is about 15% higher and the architecture is just more games friendly. this makes it better for gaming.

As an out right multithreading workstation CPU the 2700X is faster, but its only about 10%.

This is a multithreaded game and even with the 2 extra cores and higher clocks the 2700X is still slower than the 3600.

This.

"This year" is not really much use when we are in February and Ryzen 4000 is not due till late in the year. AMD CPU's are on 12 to 18 month cycles so there is always something better coming.
Yeah, you are right. Guess my decision was based on the price I paid for a 2600X, £108.
