I have a Nuvi 670 but it is dying slowly and completely loosing signal every hour or so requiring a hard reboot. Google reportsits a common problem with the circuits inside, so i need a new Sat Nav!
However i am struggling over which to get.

Money is not a option, however i dont want to spend money on unit loaded with useless features such as 100 language dictionary and facebook intergration ect.

I am a Garmin guy so not even looking at TomToms, i have always have Garmin kit and love it (apart from my faulty 670). So a Garmin model please.

But most of all i would like a unit where i can plan my route on my computer before downloading to the unit, so i know exactly where the unit will take me before being on the raod driving. I have had a few experiences where the Sat Nav has taken me down single track roads in South Armagh in the middle of the night (not advisable). I have heard of Map Source?

And America maps as an added bonus as we do a annual road trip holiday there!

any ideas appreciated!!

Get yourself a Navman and put a certain program on it called MioPocket. This lets you run any type of satnav software you want. TomTom Navigon iGO. Its the nuts

I spy with my little eye, something beginning with "trying to get enough posts for the members market".

Just being helpful mate. Iv been a member for nearly 2 years and I thought it was time to contribute. And the members market of course:)

Think the main issue for me is free updates after the one i use now is crap on new roads as it doesnt pick them up, plus tries to send you down no entry roads and one ways the wrong way.

Its a Garmin i have at the minute, does TomTom provide free updates?

Dont think there are many that do free updates. Have a look on here

I will have a look through that website.
But thought some companies had free updates.

Used it today and sent me down an impossible road again!
need to get a new one lol

Free updates probably for a certain amount of time after you buy the device, but you have to pay after that, my dad does for his Tom Tom (which I have :P )

However I prefer to use google navigation on my HTC Desire, far more versatile, just annoying if you lose data signal and need to re-plan. Though if you do loose data signal but still follow the route, it doesnt affect you.

never been into high end phones.
Some people have them on PSP's though so a gaming device and Sat Nav!

Does your Tom Tom think every motorway bridge has a speed camera on it?
I know its a possible location for a camera van but it does get annoying.

Thinking of updating to a newer satnav from my TomTom GO 300 Rev.1 that I purchased from OcUK years and years ago!

Can't decide which to go for though. . . Help me decide please! I'll end up buying the gpsworld speed camera definitions for it though, the ones tomtom do aren't anywhere near as good apparantly.
