Hi,

I am setting up a home server to basiclly do the following....

RDP for remote access to files/email etc
Service as Media storage for PC in the house
Store my Itunes to share among PC
all Documents pictures etc

I got a dell Poweredge server 840 (need to confirm model opsy)
The sata raid card it comes with is, to be honest..pants raid 1 or 0....

So I planning to buy 4 or so 1TB drives (thinking Samsung F3)

then raiding them in some form of raid level that give redundance and performance.....Mainly used RAID 5 in the past, and I feel it be more than enough for the job

SO basically after some suggestion on Raid Card to get (Current card PCI-E), which hard disk to get and weather there a better raid level for the job...

Oh got about 1.5TB of data.

regards and thanks

See if you can pick up a PERC4/i or PERC5/i off a well known auction site - if it's a PE840, it probably has PCI-X rather than PCI-E.

They are very good bang / buck.

PE840:
Five total: two PCI Express™ slots (1x8 lane and 1x1 lane); two PCI-X® slots (64-bit/133MHz, 3.3v); one PCI slot
(32-bit/33MHz)
