Which screen? (24")

Thanks for the heads up on Viewsonic's new tft, i was aware that they were due to release a 24" screen - however i'm not the greatest fan of its styling, so i might give it a miss unless it turns out to be the next big thing of course ;) .

I've just spotted that the NEC 2470WNX is available (in stock) in Canada ($969.99 CAD), so i assume its only a matter of time before they'll be available over here.

I also was going to get it but the looks of the new viewsonic looks cheap and tacky, My 18months old viewsonic looks loads better then the new viewsonic...look

Seeing as the Dell lacks speakers, I don't see an issue with the lack of HDMI. It has a HDCP compatible DVI connection so just get a HDMI to DVI cable and you're sorted.

Wait a minute - HDMI output ? That's a different kettle of fish entirely...

Ah sorry, I actually meant input, my bad :p
I've read that the Dell screen doesn't do 1080p over DVI, what The BenQ offers is 1080p support which I need if I am getting a PS3/HD player.
The dell is a very nice screen but if it can't do 1080p then I can't use it.
I'd rather buy a monitor that can last me a couple of years (ie. HD support) than spending 400+ £ on a monitor that can't do it.

Correction: the dell 2407 DOES do 1080p over both dvi and vga but does NOT do 1080i and will not work with hd-dvd players.

Have a search around on this forum and others, im almost certain im correct (please someone correct me if im wrong)

BUT - it will do 1080i over component input iirc?

I think a good benchmark to make is the NEC LCD2690WUXi 26" that is already available, at a cost of £915 I'd imagine that the new 24" releases would be, as Booner suggested around the £650-£750 mark.

Yes, its still going to be more expensive than the Dell but if its anything similar to the LCD20WGX2, then I'd bet it'll be a huge hit as the the 20" version is arguably the best on the market of its screen size.

omg it uses an AS-IPS panel like the 20.1" 20GX2... I thought they weren't going to use those panels in larger monitors?

If they make a 24" with that panel im going to cream in my pants...

I'm the same as yourself Richdog - i'd prefer to get a 24" screen that uses an IPS panel. I believe that the new NEC 2490 has one but as yet i've seen no sign of it appearing over here in Europe - more information is available on their US site. Something tells me that it isn't going to be cheap though.

However, are most people who are after a 24" screen waiting for the Samsung 245T to come out - apparently it will be released in June but is it worth waiting for? I keep waiting for the right monitor to be released but nothing yet - will the Samsung tick all the right boxes!

Hi there

How is the LG L245WP rated? Only £399+VAT at OcUK and it certainly looks a nice monitor but how does it compare?

well consider that fact that it uses the same AU Optronics P-MVA panel as the BenQ FP241W and that's a good start. It's a nice screen, no fancy features like BFI on the FP241WZ, but still a good all round panel. The screen doesnt have a DVI connection, but you can use DVI > HDMI convertor anyway. shame they didnt add both interfaces though imo. A very good price certainly, reputable brand and build quality, and the panel is decent.

Am I right in saying the difference between P-MVA & S-PVA is just branding names i.e. Phillips / Samsung? they are practically equivellant of each other? my apologies if this goes off topic slightly - btw I'm absolutly loving my new Dell 24" I think thats got a S-PVA - I watched Fantastic 4 on it this evening & I must say its better watching films from say 3 foot away or futher looks better clarity. . . excellent anyway.

any more news on viewsonics 24 inch sceen i am looking forward to it and if it turns out bad whats the lg 24 inch hdmi screen like

ok, i keep missing the point maybe, but surely the only difference between hcdp compatible dvi and hdmi is the audio signal? now, firstly how many monitors have onboard speakers that would make the hdmi worthwhile, also, who would have a computer/1080p compatible setup without computer speakers which would be vastly, like 100's of times better than monitor audio?

so the dell 2407 without hdmi has just the digital hcdp compliant signal, and if there was a dell 2407 with hdmi it would still just have the digital hdcp compliant signal and still no audio? only the 2900xt(i think the other cards in the series might have the onboard sound but not sure) can actually output sound down the cable anyway. so you need firstly a screen with speakers which will be crap, and a 2900xt(right now) to use a hdmi connector on the screen properly.

they are similar, but they do vary a bit however. I think most average users would probably experience similar performance from both, but there are differences with viewing angles, black depth and movie noise between the two. Also response time can vary in practice between different quoted generations (eg 8ms P-MVA generation is roughly equivalent to the 6ms S-PVA generation in practice)

the reason for the HDMI is just in case people want to more easily connect external devices like HD-DVD / BluRay etc, instead of a monitor. But yes, it's still just a digital interface capable of sending audio too

Not Boner ;)

I spotted the double "o". It's the word booner I'm talking about! You clearly haven't heard of it before but it's a derogatory word for African Americans - check Urban Dictionary.

Don't think I'm having a pop, just bringing your attention to the fact :D
