Which SD memory to buy?

Do I get the cheap Viking memory or splash out and get the Kingston etc.

Its a choice between about £38 and £85. (for a 2GB card). It'll be used in T Mobile MDA Vario and will be used for Tom Tom and mp3 playing etc.

Am I likely to notice the difference and does anyone know if the speed of these two varies much, apparently the Viking stuff is rebadged Toshiba memory.

I'm thinking about a simular thing. Need a new SD for my iPaq. Are the 'High Speed' SD cards worth the extra money?

I've used loads of different SD cards and the only time I found a difference with the high speed ones was when I was taking big RAW images on the digital camera.

I wouldn't bother with cheapo cards, I've had a few die and when I lost a load of information I really wished that I had bought a Kingston in the first place.

Kingston the best for SD Cards, I'm struggling to find reviews of the different cards anywhere. Anyone got any good urls ?

Just get the cheaper one, high speed ones just allow you to transfer data to them faster, not worth £50 more.

Get a reputable card for the warranty (often lifetime) but as Energize says, it's not worth paying extra for a faster card.

Highspeed are great for large images and video taking.
I mostly use sandisk and kingston in my camera.

For a PDA I would risk a cheapy, unlikely to not have that data backed up somewhere but for photos - I prefer to play it safe and pay more.

I have heard of issues with cheapo SD cards in PDAs running the latest TomTom where using a higher quality Kingston card solved the problem.

I found a big difference between a normal Sandisk and a Sandisk Ultra 2 (1gb) in my Canon Camera in saving pics, i would recommend them. I find most camera review sites use Sandisk Ultra aswell.

Well im about to buy SPV M5000 PDA/mobile and plan on using it to store music, some photos and some general office stuff, so Would I benefit from fast SD cards?

Im planning on buying 2gb SD card

No, they are only usefull for transferring large files quickly, normal sd cards have data transfer rates sufficent for anything youd be using it for.

Branded memory cards aren't that much more these days.

Quick search shows a Sandisk one for £46.

What I do suggest though is to possibly by a Transflash/Micro SD card instead of a SD card. Lots of new devices are taking these, if you ever change devices, better chance of the card working rather then wasting your money.
