Hi All I,m sort of going round in a circle regarding GFX cards , can you tell me what is the better make/model 's either the 9 series or 8 series GForce or the 4 series ATI ?

Goes a little like this fastest to slowest. 4870x2,4850x2,9800gx2,48701gb/512mb,48501gb/512mb,9800gtx+,8800ultra,8800gtx,9800gtx,8800gts512mb/9800gt,8800gt,4830,9600gt. Think thats enough cards as there is more all depends on the price bracket you are looking to buy in. You never mentioned the gtx series so i left them out. The 9800gx2 may be behind the 48701gb not to sure as it has less memory and this can limit it in high memory usage situations but i think its faster when this is not the case. Another 1 i am not to sure on is where the 8800gtx/ultra fit in as they are still very fast and have more memory than the 9800gtx/+. The 4850 stays ahead imo as in some games its way faster than all 8800 cards.

Okay wow ! not had or seen a better reply ! so what woud you say is better ATI or Nivida types ?

I have had both companies with no issues so for me you can't go wrong with either company. The 4 series are the better cards imo though so if just based on the simple question which is better ati 4 series v nv 8 or 9 series i would say that ati is better. It would all really depend on what the budget on the card you wanted to buy was though.

really depends on what the rest of your system involves and which size of monitor your running...

top end - 4850x2, 4870x2, GTX 260 and 280

mid range 4850, 4870, 9800GTX/+, 9800GX2

low end - 9800GT, 9600GT, 4830,46xx

P.s in no particular order

thanks this is more info than i thought i,d get ! so don,t want to side track ,but where would the 8 series fit into this ??

8800gtx/ultra = mid range 8800gts 512 is basically just a 9800gtx with lower clocks so maybe touching on mid range also.

8800gt is also basically a 9800gt. So with above it would fit in the low end. One thing to say is even though it maybe in the low range the 8800gt is still a very cabable gpu and would be able to play most of todays games at half decent settings. This probably goes for all 8800 cards all still very capable for there age.
