not entirely sure if I should be stopping any of these, but there seems to be a lot of them
I tried stopping everything barr the essential ones, ended up with basic color/theme and having to reactivate windows

nahh, the tab to the left of startup items
there's nothing really wrong with my pc, I'm just thinking there's prob a lot of stuff running that doesn't need to be

2 obvious ones were yahoo and google updater, no idea about the rest

Edit: And if I'm right in saying (please tell me otherwise), you shouldn't disable any services in msconfig, it should be done under services.

If there is nothing wrong with your PC, then don't bother disabling services. Assuming you are on Windows 7, any services not actively doing anything take up very few resources.

Correct. msconfig is a diagnostics tool. You should disable them in services.msc. :)
