Guys, i am in the process of trying to put together a Gaming PC for myself.

I am going the SFF route but need advice also on a monitor. I have a 20 TFT but was wondering what size do people 'Generally' use these days with their PCs. My TFT is around 10 year old now and i was wondering if i should get a bigger screen.

I am thinking of mounting it on the wall in my kitchen. Maybe i could get one that i can use as a TV too? Not sure though as i dont watch much, if any TV. Its all PC for me, via my laptop.

So, what size Monitor?

What fixing for a wall mounting?

Cheers

I will be about 3ft away from the monitor but, i am thinking of getting a wall mount so i can bring it closer at times

Using a 42" HDTV (1920x1080) from a 1m distance (~3.2ft).

In any case, what bothers me is this:
You're building a "Gaming PC" ... in the kitchen?? Those things don't really add up. Also, first you were talking about SFF, but then you said "it's all PC for me, via my laptop". Or was that sentence related to the TV watching? All in all, I'm a little confused as to what you're trying to build here.

Are you looking to play some casual puzzle gaming while eating a breakfast, or are you building it as your main rig, with the main usage scenario being gaming, and for some unknown reason you want to place it in the kitchen?

If the former, then keep your 20" monitor, you don't need anything special. Actually, a tablet would be a much better option, instead of a gaming PC.

If the latter, then some generic 24"-27" IPS or VA screen should be fine. Well, depending on your own eye sight, of course. From 3ft, 27" might be a better option.

Only place i can have the PC is on the kitchen table that is why i currently has a laptop which is naff at Gaming.

A SFF is the best option as i can keep it small.

Kitchen table is against wall so i can mount a 24" Monitor on the wall with an arm so i can bring it closer if need be and when the kitchen table is moved away from the wall.

in regards to wall mounting , what material are you trying to fix to ?

This is another question. The wall in question has insulation behind a plasterboard surface, approx 30mm deep. I guess i will have to drill a fair bit into the wall to provide decent support.

24 or 27 seems like the right size guys. Choosing the right model is difficult as i have not bought a Monitor for years! The 24" i linked to seems very good though but i would appreciate any advice.

24 or 27. See these 2 sizes quite a bit. Best for me to check out the physical sizes first before i commit.

27" 1440p PLS here.

I have suffered from very itchy feet with regards to monitors this last couple of years, just couldn't settle on one that I wanted.

Started with a Samsung 1440p 27" that I had for nearly 4 years then decided I wanted to give 21:9 a go but couldn't stretch to the 3440x1440 models so got a LG 34" 2560x1080 - enjoyed it for about 4 or 5 months then realised I really missed the pixel density and vertical height (real estate) of a 1440p monitor - sold the LG.

Then i went to BenQ 32" off of the Rainforest, didn't take to it at all, far too big for my desk and overall usage so that went back after a week or so.

Then went with the Dell U2515H 1440p which was a fantastic piece of kit, it looked awesome but for my gaming I found it just a touch too small - so guess what, it was moved on as well.

And where am I now? Full Circle back to another Samsung 27" PLS 1440p - although this one is wall mountable which I really like.

At the moment I can't see me moving to anything in the near future - possibly one of the 34 inch ultra wides at 3440x1440 resolution as that's about the only thing I haven't tried yet!

But I do love the 27" @ 2560x1440 - a real sweet spot, for now.....

Thanks for sharing that.
