Just about to upgrade my RAM from Geil Ultra 2x1GB PC6400C4 DDR2 800MHz to GeIL 2x2GB PC2-6400C4 DDR2 800MHz Black Dragon EVOONE.

The system is a OCUK build I bought around 12mnths ago and according to CPUz the 2 1GB sticks are in slots 3 and 4 (the 2 black slots), I take it its just a matter pulling out the old RAM and sticking in the new. Best to put it back in the sam slots? (The new RAM has heatsinks which might be a squeeze). Change both sticks at the same time? (On an old Tiny system I had many years ago, you had to change 1 stick at a time and reboot after each change).

MB is a ASUS M2R32-MVP btw.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same board, but ive had 4 x 1gb Geil 6400 RAM so all 4 slots were being used, I replaced them today with 2 x 2gb Corsair dominator 8500 so now im only gonna be using 2 slots.

I cant remember which slots i need to use, was trying to download the manual off the website which will tell me but they are zipped and cant open zipped files in work gah. will have to try later.

Usually you put them into the same coloured slots to gain dual-channel.

Tho CPU-Z will tell you if they're running in single or dual-channel.

i always put mine in dimm1, and dimm3, basically as Cob said

Yeah I've always seen memory slots arranged that way, but this MB has it:

Black (slot #4)
Black (slot #3)
Yellow (slot #2)
Yellow (slot #1)

With my 2x1GB in the black slots.

With the Alpine 64 fan I have, there's no way I can get this Stick into slot #1 due to the heat sink on it. I'm going to try and get them into #3 and #4 where the old sticks are.
