Yo all

Looking to buy myself some snowboarding gear for a holiday in march (val thorens) and then a season in november (poss fernie). Not really sure what board am going to go for, so if anyone could offer any tips or advice would be cool.

I have 2 weeks experience so far (plus a cpl of hours at Xscape), but would say am of intermediate skill, as spent most of my 2nd week off piste / powder. Am a pretty confident rider, looking to maybe start playing around in the park and on jumps in the near future.

So to sum up want something thats going to be good on and off piste, with the ability to learn jumps and a few tricks etc too.

Managed to find a Burton Air for £240 brand new, but would probably go up to 300-350 (cant really go for anymore as need a new jacket, boots, bindings, helmet etc), but if you really think it would be worth my while spending a bit more then its nice to keep it as an option.

Cheers

Slightly OT but I got a new pair of skis the other day, just need to wait til the week after next to try them out! :D

I'm not really a huge fan of burton boards - imo you're paying a lot for simply the name. Look into manufacturers such as wild duck instead. I've had a wild duck 'butcher' for a while now and it's been absolutely brilliant for the price - got it for around £220 new.

yeah i did think that to be honest, as on ebay you get a load of boards of more or less unknown names, but seem a lot lower price

as long as people reckon it'd be good for what i want, and the design is fairly pleasing to the eye (am a web designer / developer so needs to be pretty :p) its alllll good :) Just checked em out and like the look of em!

How about going to an Xscape and trying one or 2 out? I did that with my skis before I bought them. Ellis Brigham let you borrow new(ish) ones to try before you buy, just try a couple you think you'll like and buy it somewhere else, all for the cost of an hour at xscape. That is assuming EB do try before you buy boards.

good thinking, am in Luton so pretty close, plus my new job I start this week is in MK so perfect! Was planning to go there anyways before I go in march so will see what they are saying

EB = TSA but snowboard stuff right? Don't see any wild duck stuff on their site and wouldnt mind trying one of these.

Its the big ski/snowboard shop just to the right of the ticket desk yes? I know they don't actually call it EB but cant remember the name.

I assume you are either buying boots or have boots already if your getting a booard?

Anything in Neon Pink or Lime Green

lol at shameful postcount++'s

and yeah its the big one by the desk

Its called EB, but the snowboard section is something like the snowboard asylum

dont have boots yet, but think i know which am going to get, just want to concentrate on the board atm :)

so can anyone else suggest any decent non major brands for what i'm after? TSA site has a rating system for park, on / off piste, and rails etc which i have been trying to go by, but they dont really cover many of the less popular brands
