I want to do some serious benchmarking of my rig so I can see how much of a performance increase my new computer will offer but I'm not sure what software to use to do the benchmarking though. Does anyone have any suggestions for Windows and / or Linux benchmarking software at all?

Any help is appreciated :).

for Cpu benching, prime95, LinX, OCCT, Fritz Chess
Gpu: anything by 3DMark in general, Also Unigine Heaven, Techpowerup also host quite a few decent Gaming benchmarks such as Stalker, Street fighter, AVP, Devil May cry :)

There's certainly more to choice from now:

For static benchmark run Furmark

For real time benchmarks, pick one of your favourite games and load a saved game where there’s plenty of complicated heavy combat.. Play the same scene both before and after upgrade and in both instances check the FPS using Fraps.

Fraps will record the minimum, maximum and average fps.. Real time gaming benchmarks..

3d benchmark is a good source too:

Dirt 3DX11 benchmark.

Saints Row 3 DX11
http://benchmark3d.com/saints-row-3-benchmark

STALKER benchmark

to name a few

Lastly, the CPC and CINIBENCH (OpenGL) are pretty decent..
