Hi

I'm looking for some upgrades for my ergo laptop customized ASUS U5F and i'm going to upgrade the hard drive, the optical drive to a DVD RW since my other one snapped (Which hard drive and optical drive shall I buy? I need a SATA one, not SATA2 or SATA150) and since I'm installing a new hard drive, I might as well buy a new operating system. I use my microlite 411 (U5F customized notebook) to school and I do mainly all of my writen work as I'm special needs and I can type very fast and I can keep up with the class. I don't have my PC networked to the school so therefore I can have any operating system that I want. I would like windows vista so which edition shall I go for? and what about burning suite and anti-virus? My specs on my laptop are:
Intel Celeron M @ 1.46ghz
1.5GB of RAM
40 gig Hard Drive
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100

I have done a vista scan and it's compatible with windows Vista.

I have used nero 8 and I'm thinking about upgrading to Nero 9. I would like an anti-virus program which is an internet security suite and which doesn't slow down my laptop.

Personally I wouldn't bother upgrading the operating system to Vista because I don't see what you would really gain from the added cost - but thats just my opinion.
From what I have heard the differences between Nero 8 and 9 do not justify the upgrade either, so I would say stick with Nero 8. As for antivrus I use NOD32 and highly recommend it, they also do a full security suite (ESET® Smart Security). Whatever you do though, stay away from Norton because that will slow down your laptop.

Def would not bother with Vista on that machine, stick with XP

Burning - I tend to use IMGBurn for everything these days.

AV - NOD32 is very good.

As for anything else check out the Freeware Utilities Section on this very forum.
