Which software to create OS image?

I'd like to backup several stand alone PC's OS installs so I can restore them should anything happen to the original OS.

I used to use Norton Ghost many years ago but haven't had any dealing with this kind of thing for a long time.

Any recommendations?

Check out either Macrium or Paragon softwares free offerings. Both will let you create the image from within windows and provide recovery media(Boot CD) to let you restore if windows won't boot. You can get more advanced features by paying for them but i'd bet either one of these will do for 99% of people.

If you have a Western Digital hard drive installed you can use the free version Here.

Other manufacturers also supply backup software so take a gander at your hard drives manufacturers site.

I use a combination of DriveImage XML and BartPE.

As a previous Acronis user, I've recently bought the latest Macrium

Awesome software, and a UK company.

They have a free version too
