Hi all. My brother would like to hook up his guitar to the pc to make some recordings. I'm currently using the sound from a A8N32-SLi which probably is not up to the task.

Which X-fi or HDA should i get? Is there any other equipment we need?

We currenly have a pair of Aego M's (superb speakers when they work) and game a fair ammount.

Thanks

If electric guitar is all that is being recorded, and they are just demos; then rather than buying a new sound card I would go for something like Line6s 'guitar port':

If you want to make good quality recordings using microphones, then a dedicated recording card such as M-Audio's Audiophile 192 (or the cheaper AudioPhile 2496) is the best bet IMO.
