which sound card

have a audigy4 card
looking for a better sound card for gaming
looking at 2
creative x-fi- fatal1ly gamer card without panel
Auzentech X-Meridian 7.1 Soundcard
used a x-fi musicextreme few months back,my other system would boot or post,that system wwas up to date
have used creative cards for long time and was first big prob i had,in end sold it and just put in audigy4
so waht my options

last x-fi music wouldnt work as wouldnt boot with last system which was abit av8 3eye mobo
why are x-fi causing like to me and others
could either take a chance with another x-fi card which wont be music version
creative when asked about last x-fi card blamed my hardware which work without any probs
hard call

Hmm tough call, I don't think a different version of the same product would be any different tbh, but, you do have a DFI board now by the looks of your sig and I also run a DFI board with my X-Fi. Not one problem, and I don't know of many others with a DFI board and X-Fi having problems?

First X-Fi Xtreme Music was faulty and sometimes stopped PC booting
Second X-Fi Xtreme Music currently working flawlessly.

Go with the Xtreme Music IMO, not worth spending the extra on the next model up and I don't think the X-Meridian is going to be too great for gaming compared to the X-Fi.

An X-Fi will work well, even with "not so good" speakers so it's still worthwhile. I had an X-Fi running through my cheap 5.1 system for a good while before going Hi-Fi. Granted it sounds even better again, but it still sounded good before.
