My onboard sound on my asus is pants! Was looking at getting one of these - Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer 7.1 Soundcard...
 
Asus P5N32-E SLi nForce 680 - has it's own sound card that comes with it - very poor card.

So the X-Fi Gamer is a good sound card to go for then?
 
Well I've only had it one week but I haven't stopped playing music and games since I installed it :)

I followed their advice and installed quite a bit of the included Creative software, some of its quite cool actually, I like the mixing desk and also the Creative MediaSource 5 stuff.

I was a bit baffled by the different 'modes' the card has but this image pretty much makes it clear
