Well its payday on friday :D

And after finally choosing to get a 2900xt over a 640 gts ive suddenly come across another "problem" ..

After some looking on ocuk ive noticed i can get a nice c2d setup for just abit more cash..

So what would be best ? Buy a HD2900xt and enjoy all the bells and whistles..

Or

Get a c2d, 2gb ram, mobo and cooler and enjoy faster speeds in other things.. And keeping my x1900xt and get hd2900xt at a later date..

Which upgrade would be better in the long run. The c2d option seems best. But idk. Opinions please :)

Another thing is that a guy at the local pc shop near me said he would buy my cpu, ram, mobo for his personal pc.. So would get abit of cash from that. How much i should sell them for is yet to be decided.

If it was me, I'd keep the X1900XT and upgrade to C2D (E6600 @ £150), 2Gb Ram (Geil 2 x 1Gb DDR2 @ £60) and Mobo (~£60-80). If you sell your current components on for enough cash, then you can think about getting a new GPU too (8800GTS 320Mb for instance) or save up for a G90/R700 etc.

I'd go Core2Duo as well, the components Rivey suggests are good. I'd probably pick the Gigabyte DS3P or the Asus P5N-E 650 SLi for the motherboard. Possibly change the Ram to the Crucial Ballistix PC5300 C3 if it isn't that much more expensive.

I was in a similar situation to you not long ago, was going to get a 8800, Then i decided to upgrade to C2D and get the new 8800 later.

I just upgraded from a 4800X2 (Stock), 2GB on an Asus A8N32Sli Deluxe. To E6600 P5B-D and 2Gb GeIL (Now 4gb thanks to the great price @ OCUK). Even thought i kept my 7900GTO 512mb, i notice a nice difference in using the pc especially gaming.

Will be getting a 8800 in about a month i think. :)

Well ive made my mind up.. Not got from ocuk though

Got a E6600, Asus P5N-E SLI, 2Gb Corsair 6400 Dominator arriving tomorrow :D

And i part-ex my old cpu, mobo and ram for £120 :)

Will then buy a decent cooler next week and oc my E6600

Bah .... forgot about that

Im off to cancel my ram order :p

**Edit**

Canceled my ram order.. And bought some GeiL ram instead off ocuk :D

See im still loyal :p

Ok now i need a decent cooler.. Will buy it next week when my bank balance settles down :p

Il probably get a Tuniq Tower.. But is there a better cooler out there ? Is there any reasons not to get a Tuniq Tower ?

Ok i got it all in and im loving it :D

I went for the ds3p in the end.. The place where i got it from only had 1 asus left and it was dodgy :o

Will get a decent cooler next week and see how she clocks

Ok ive ran 3dmark 05 and 06 and my scores are

05 : 11,606

06 : 5926

Do these seem to do justice for my system ? Everything is running at stock..

*edit*

Sorry for triple posting :o

Err, I'm afraid that I don't see anything in your signature just now about your specification so perhaps you could put in a post about what your system is. :)

Ah, you might have to refresh as I changed it recently. :)

I have:

E6600
DS3P
2GB RAM
8800GTS 640Mb
