Which Speakers: 2.0 or 2.1

Hi Guys,

I've decided to ditch my budget Creative 5.1 and go for a system that takes up less space and is neat and tidy.

My requirements are... no rear speakers to trip over/hoover round. Headphone jack on control unit or speakers to make it easy to plug my headset in (ideal would be headphone and mic jacks but I don't think I'll find that). I will use this for gaming and listening to music. I need speakers that will do a good job off both. Volume isn't especially important but the sound must be full and should fill my study which is 3.31mx2.87m.

I am leaning towards Logitech Z-2300 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-022-LG after flirting with the idea of the Z-10s http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-041-LG but being put off by them being tied to a USB Sound Card and not using my XFi.

however I notice a lot of favourable comments in this forum about the AE Aego http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-000-AE&groupid=702&catid=22&subcat=173

Could you guys maybe give me your advice, experience, views please? I need help coming to a conclusion. (I run Vista 64bit if that makes any difference I doubt it will)

Thanks,
Phasechange

Well there's no headphone socket on the Aego's, cant you use the headphone socket on your Xfi? They really are fantastic speakers.

Well, I've been extremely happy with the Z-2300. Very full sound, and loads of volume if you want it and a huge woofer.

I've had the Z-2300 I think for 2 years now, and they're tbh I still think they're great.

We've got 2 other computers, both with 5.1 by creative, yet these peform better (also less clutter) due the fact they are THX®-certified.

You'll be more than happy, I use it straight from X-Fi card or anything else I feel like playing from, mp3 cd player whatever. :D

THX for computers is a farce, and means nothing. Lucas sold out THX name.
THX Ultra on the other hand....strokes my av pre-amp :p

I don't have a front audio panel and the jack on the back is used for the speakers. Or can you connect both and I'm being thick?

Im also sure you wont be let down by those speakers, been using mine for nearly two years now and i honestly think theyre the best pc related purchase ive ever made. Great value for money and they pack quite a punch :) .

just to offer my perspective....

i've got some z-10's and they are very very clear and provide adiquate bass.

i used to have megaworks 2.1's and x-fi in my old comp and while i can say you lose the x-fi clarity, you do gain an extremely tidy setup with good sound:)
