Hi,

I'm going to be getting a MBP in the next week or so, but I'm torn between which spec to get.

I'm dead set on the 13" version as portability is the number 1 reason for me buying it (and I have an iMac 24" as my main computer), but I can't decide whether to go for the base model one or pay the extra £200 and get the better spec.

The main uses of the MBP will be running CS4 for web design/development purposes as well as the standard internet, email, music and perhaps the occasional boot into windows for a game.

Also, if anyone has any pictures of their 13" MBPs it would be great to see!

Cheers for any advice :)

i got the 2.5ghz 13'' mbp and its really good, thinking of upgrading to a ssd or a 7000rpm hd at a later date.
tbh the lower spec is better value and you only realy want the 4gb of ram. both are good options so you cant really go wrong.

Hmm, I really can't decide! I think in times of indecision like this it's usually best to get the better spec so you can't regret it in the future.

Looks like I've answered my own question, just be a bit shorter on beer tokens for a few weeks :p

is the 2.53 really worth it over the 2.26? Especially if you are likely to upgrade the RAM and HDD anyway?

Tempted by the 2.26 13" as an upgrade to my EEE.... i'm willing to trade the 3" and .5kg for the better spec. Plus Keynote looks pretty nice after the powerpoint faff. I'd likely as not stick 4GB in and either a WD Black or wait till the SDDs are cheaper, so what'd be the point in the extra .3Ghz for the extra cash?

Go for the lower specced model and upgrade the RAM and HDD yourself as its a lot cheaper than paying Apple to do it. Thats what I plan on doing anyway.
Like other people have said, is the .3GHz really worth the extra money??

How much do you reckon it would cost me to upgrade to 4GB RAM (is that the max RAM the new MBP can take?) and upgrade the HDD to something a lot bigger than the standard? Also how easy is this to do?

Getting closer to purchase time so still weighing up my options :D

From the look its a few screws and that's about it, from memory i think Apple inculde documentation on how to do it, both are considered user-servicable under the warranty.
instructions here under "MBP 17" early 09"

4GB Ram would be ~£50 and a Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB is £52 on the main site. A fair bit short of the £250 (~£200 with edu discount) extra Mac charge, and that doesnt take into account the Black is a larger and considerably faster drive than the 250GB in the upgraded 13".

Yeah, I'd get HE discount so the saving would be about £100 (but gaining the faster CPU) but I still can't decide! :p
