If I go with the first one I get a 512mb card for my gaming.. if I go for the second one I get a faster processor, SLI motherboard and a bigger and faster hard drive for LESS but an inferior graphics card.

Is Asus the way to go or should I be looking at MSI boards? I've had a look in the Asus V MSI thread on the motherboard section and opinions seem pretty 50/50 split.

Note: I've never overclocked in my life and I'm not even sure whether I am going to.

So which spec would you go for? And any comments/suggestions/criticism on either spec?

the top spec but why do you want an sli mobo when u r buying an ati graphics card personally i would get an nvidia as u can sli later or change the mobo for a crossfire and its not woth the extra for the X2 4200 so just get the 3800

Ah, I'm relatively new to all this, wasn't aware that SLI was Nvidia only.

Cheers.

Heh, makes the question a lot simpler to answer.

Ok.

So I'll definitely go for 3800 instead of 4200.

Which of the two graphics cards should I go for? Is it worth dropping down to a 256mb from 512mb to get a bigger and faster hard drive?

And should I definitely be going for that Asus motherboard? Are there better alternatives for roughly the same price?

If oyu keep the SLI board i'd get a 7900GT but if you ditch the SLI board get a X1800XT 512MB. The extra RAM on the X1800XT will come in handy if you gave at high resolutions.
