which split screen co-op?

got a mate coming to stay for a while and i'd love to find a good co-op fps to play (co-op as in run through the story together)...

I'm talking PS3 but if the winning formula is for the 360 then maybe i'll get one, i've been batting the idea round for a while anyway...

so... top 3 split-screen co-ops?

hmm ok, well i tried army of 2 and thought it was a bit pap, resistance 2 although i wanted it to be good was a let down and i couldn't get my head around the fancy new coop mode (just wanted to play the story really) so that leaves halo, GOW and RE5, so my dilemma now is just get RE5 for the PS3 and be done with it, or buy a 360 just for GOW and Halo (although i am sure i will find more games later down the line )

choices choices, is GOW co-op good or proper super mega awesome?
