Been out of the ICE scene for sometime now due to company cars. Not bought my own car yet but thought i'd get the audio in now! :D

Was a big pioneer fan, but don't like the look of the new one's and none come close to my old P99R (god i miss that HU)

Seen an alpine MP3/CD HU i like which will do (either the CDA-9812RB or the CDA-9855R )

going to stick with stock speakers for now (focus ones seem ok for now) but want a sub/amp kit.

I've always liked the alpine kits, but am interested in any comparisons? I've looked at the 10" Type R's and the digital pack here.

any views?

awww c'mon, at least just spent ~£130 and swap out the stock speakers! Front's are the most important things in any system!

What's your budget for the sub / amp? Who is fitting it?

Sub and amp you chose is a good compbo, I like those subs.

yeah, guess you're right.

I know that if i stick some comps in the front, i'm going to want to put a 4 channel amp in the boot. I'm not one for wanting budget kit and would want the best. last lot of kit cost me £2000 without a sub!

considered putting some decent coax's in the front and running them off the HU.

Budget for the HU and SUB/AMP would be no more than £600.

HU is either £200 or £280 and the sub kit is £280 also.

would probably add comps later though

However the Alpine Type-R gear gives a very nice sound but just make sure you get a 12" sub kit over the 10".

However

why the 12"? i'm not a massive bass head, just like a nice note to fill out the bottom end.

Always thought the 10" was more punchy, yet gave a good weight to the low end too?

Not suggested for a bass head, reason being a single 12 give a much better overall bass fill sound in car (not in showroom) specially in the Type-R gear. Also depends on your car but certainly in a decently made car with some solid panels and soundproofing (not a old escort or 106 etc) you need it for the sound to travel.

With a Type-R, you still get punchy bass but it depends how you set up the amp. The alpine monoblocks are pretty good for that.

cool, thanks for the advise. Not heard the Digital Type-R's but i know the other's are pretty good.

Been looking at a focus....nothing special, just waiting for the ST prices to come down. Thought the 10" may be enough for that size of car.

the focus boot fits plenty more than just a 10" ;]
rhys (local boy) had a mental system - 2 x 15" iirc and some crazy sized amps from USA! hes refitting it atm.

if your thinking about focus audio, then head over to ffoc.co.uk, plenty of people in the know about what sounds good in the focus :]

i know i can get more than a 10" in there, but i want the boot space too.

been on the ffoc.co.uk forums today.....great site.

OK.....am swaying towards a 10" sub as space is important to me and i'm sure the 10 will give me the bass i want.

Have picked out a couple of comp sets i'm going to listen to around the 75WRMS range. Would i be better getting 2 amps (1 mono block and a 2 channel) or a 4 channel amp, bridging the 2 channels for the sub and using the other 2 for the comps?

Been out of this a while and am struggling to find the correct path to take.

i've read on the FFOC.co.uk site that i can get 16.5cm comps in the front. I was tempted to go for the 10" sub set which i listed in the original post and then just run the comps from the HU. The alpine HU has 60Wx4 amp built in so plenty there.

I must admit i do prefer pioneer HU's but since i sold my old P99R i've not seen any which come close to it. I've seen the Alpine and heard it so know it sounds retty good.

I've heard lots of good things about the type-r comps too....

will have a listen before buying though

yes, the HU needs a direct feed. Will be feeding the amp power cable through so shouldn't be too much of a pain.

i may leave the comps till i get the car then. atleast then i can see what depths and space i have left.

don't want to mess about too much.....hoping to have my ST in 6-10 months

i'm not so keen on alpine speakers they make great headunits and some nice amps but the speakers dont seem to be that good.

this pack on CAD seems like a good deal and will have good SQ http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pro...d=4625&cadid=b80873ebfd7b14eba2b54c7d5c9938a4

i used to have some old DD drive alpine comps.....they were amasing. i've never heard of genesis or rainbow TBH.

Going to have to get down to the local ICE store and have a listen. May just stick with the HU and sub for now

What are you getting now then if not the ST?

just a basic focus.

I got a quote on an ST2 in performance blue after i took it for a test drive for £17000.

I can't afford to lose the 5-6K in the first year so going to wait and see how the prices come down first.

thanks for the help. Will prob just go for the 10" alpine sub/amp set and the HU for now then.

Will see how that goes and can soon add another 2 channel amp and comps later.
