Hi everyone, thanks in advance for any helps/advice you can give.

I'm increasingly needing to work from home, I have a desktop system and work has provided me with a laptop. But, it's getting frustrating having to keep plugging in and unplugging my monitor into my laptop, and I can't fully benefit from using both my monitors when working on my laptop.

Someone suggested getting a 'switch' so that I can go from working, to gaming (resolution and refresh rate needs to be 2560 x 1440, 100hz or more when using desktop). But, I am at a loss on which would be best for my needs and any peripherals/cables that need to go with it.

My desktop system includes:
  • Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Elite Intel Z390 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
  • Palit GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Gaming Pro OC 11264MB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • Monitors
    • Dell S2721DGF
    • Dell S2719DGF
Work laptop:
  • Lenovo 21FKS3H400
Budget is upto £100, with some wiggle room if really needed.

Thanks in advance for your help, advice and guidance to complete this setup.

EDIT: Those monitors have multiple video in options and if like my similar model Dells you can rebind buttons on the monitor to quick swap between sources. Though I'm not sure I'm fully understanding your requirements here.

If your laptop has usb-c output, then get a usb-c to dual hdmi adaptor. I use one of those for my work laptop, whilst my pc is plugged directly in using the other inputs on the monitors.

I can't remember exactly what they said, I think KVM switch? I just remember them saying something about a switch.

I want to be able to switch between using my desktop on both screens, then switch to using my laptop on both screens. So I am also only using one mouse and keyboard (not the laptop trackpad and keyboard)

Hope they makes sense?

Yes, that’s a KVM switch you need. You’ll have your mouse, keyboard and monitors plugged into it then two USB cables coming out - one to the laptop and one to your gaming PC. There will be a physical switch that you press to change between using your laptop and PC.

I can’t recommend one as I’ve not used any! Just thought I’d confirm with you what you’re after
