Which Thermalright AIO?

all the same mate, there's very little difference between the two
the warframe has the little screen, but you need to download and install TRCC to use it.
personally i don't like all these extra software so i tend to avoid all these fancy-schmancy screens.

if you are going to get the aqua elite...i'd shop around for the V6 instead. better pump and better fans.

(i own both the aqua elite v3 and v6)

You absolutely do not need water cooling for a 7800X3D, they can be passively cooled, but a Freezer pro 3. A 420mm version if it will fit. That should see you good for a 24c Ryzen upgrade.

We have two Thermalright AIO's in our house, a 240mm Frozen Edge in the wifes pc cooling a 5600x (used to be mine cooling a 7800x3d) and my pc has a Frozen Vision 360mm (has a fancy screen) cooling my 9850x3d and both have been brilliant, no problems at all. If you don't want one with a screen the Aqua Elite 360 will be fine but like tamzzy says, try to get the v6 as it's better than the v3.

...

Did you mean passively, as in no fans at all? Or did you just mean regular air cooling with a heatsink and fan? 'cause the way the 3D cache is stacked on these chips means that you need some kind of active cooling in my experience.

What JRS said. My guess is same as JRS said, your "passively cooled" is normal air cooled case with fans and cpu cooler with fan/s.

Definition of "passively cooled" is "moving heat away from a hot object or space using natural laws of physics without using powered parts like electric fans or liquid pumps".

This will not work in any kind of normal computer case with anything but the lowest heat CPUs.

It might be possible with a heatsink case like a few companies have tried. At Computex07 Thermalright had prototype HSC-100 midi-tower case with side of case being a huge heat pipe air cooler mounted on CPU. Thermalright also showed similar desktop cooler case models HSC-300 and HSC-500 desktop case too.

Streacom is now marketing their SG10 with CPU loop heat pipe. They also have Streacom DB4 fanless chassis (260 x 260 x 270mm Width x Depth x Height) for home theater use they claim will cool up to 65 watt and up to 110 watt with Streacom ST-LH6 CPU heat pipe kit.
